How to Preview Your LinkedIn Profile Picture and Banner Together

Oct 2, 2026

Most people choose their LinkedIn profile picture and banner separately. But on your profile page, they're seen as one image: your photo sits on top of the bottom left of your banner. If you don't check them together, you can end up with your face covering your company name, a logo cut in half, or two colors that clash.

How your photo and banner fit together

  • Your banner is a wide 4:1 image. The recommended size is 1584 x 396 pixels.
  • Your profile picture is a circle that overlaps the lower left of the banner.
  • On mobile, the banner is cropped at the sides, so anything near the left or right edge may disappear.

That means the bottom left corner of your banner is mostly hidden on desktop, and the far edges are at risk on mobile.

Common problems to look out for

  1. Text hidden behind your photo. A tagline or website address in the bottom left of your banner will be covered.
  2. Logos cut off on mobile. Logos placed near the edges may be cropped on phones.
  3. Colors that clash. A busy or brightly colored banner can compete with your photo. If your photo has a colored background, check that it doesn't blend into the banner behind it.
  4. Too much going on. A detailed banner plus a detailed photo can make your profile header feel cluttered.

How to design around the overlap

  • Keep important text and logos in the center and right side of your banner.
  • Leave the bottom left as simple background, since your photo will cover it.
  • Choose banner colors that contrast with your photo's background, so your face stands out.
  • Keep banner text short. It needs to be readable on a phone.

How to preview them together

LinkedIn doesn't show you the combined result until both images are live. A LinkedIn profile picture viewer lets you check them together before you upload anything:

  1. Upload your profile picture.
  2. Upload your banner.
  3. See them combined in a LinkedIn-style profile header on desktop and mobile.
  4. Adjust your banner layout or photo crop, then preview again.

This is especially useful for designers and marketing teams creating branded banners for a group of people. You can check that the banner works with each person's photo, not just your own.

Company pages have the same issue

LinkedIn company pages also place the logo over the cover image. The same rule applies: keep key content away from where the logo sits, and check the result before you publish.
