Facebook Event Cover Photo Size in 2026: Exact Dimensions + How to Preview

A Facebook Event cover is not the same file as a Page banner or a personal profile cover. Reuse an 851 × 315 Page image and Facebook will stretch it, crop the date, or hide the title behind the RSVP chrome. The practical Facebook event cover photo size in 2026 is 1,920 × 1,005 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio). Design to that canvas, keep logos and headlines in the center, and preview the crop before you hit Save—Meta will not let you resize the photo after it is on the event.

This guide is for hosts who need exact dimensions, a desktop-vs-mobile safe zone, and a short checklist so the cover still reads in invites, search, and the event page.

Facebook event cover photo size in 2026

Meta’s Help Center explains how to add a cover photo to a Facebook event, including a critical constraint: you can add or remove the image, but you cannot edit its size after it is attached. It does not publish a hard pixel spec the way it does for Pages. In practice, designers still upload a landscape 1.91:1 file so Facebook does not have to invent a crop.

  • Recommended upload: 1,920 × 1,005 pixels (1.91:1)
  • Fallback minimum: 1,200 × 628 pixels (same ratio; Facebook will upscale and it will look soft)
  • Avoid: 1,920 × 1,080 (16:9). That extra height is the first thing mobile crops.
  • File: sRGB JPG for photos, PNG for logos and type, keep it under a few MB

Do not confuse this with a Facebook cover photo size for a personal profile or Page. Meta’s official Page spec is still an 851 × 315 JPG (minimum 400 × 150), with a circular profile overlapping the left side. Event covers have no avatar overlap, but they do get reused as a smaller share card.

Desktop vs mobile: where Facebook crops the event cover

On desktop, the event page shows a wide landscape banner. On phones, Facebook center-crops the same file into a shorter strip above the title, date, and Going / Interested buttons. That is why edge-to-edge type fails.

Keep this safe zone in mind:

  • Center 60–70%: event name, date, city, and logo. This is the only area you can trust on mobile and in News Feed previews.
  • Top and bottom 15%: decorative only. Mobile trims these first.
  • Far left and right: branding or atmosphere. Desktop may show them; invite cards often will not.

If you must put a URL or ticket line on the graphic, set it in the middle third. Facebook already prints the official time and location in UI text under the cover, so repeating tiny type in the corners is wasted.

Event cover vs Page cover vs Group cover

Facebook uses three different cover systems. Mixing them is the most common reason a banner looks “broken.”

  • Event: 1,920 × 1,005, 1.91:1, no profile picture overlay. You cannot resize after upload.
  • Page / personal cover: Meta recommends 851 × 315 for Pages (official dimensions), with the profile photo covering the lower left on mobile.
  • Group: 1,640 × 856. See our Facebook group cover photo size guide if you are designing for a community, not a dated event.

Your event cover also sits next to the host Page or personal Facebook profile picture in some surfaces. Keep the cover photographic or branded; leave faces for the avatar so the two assets do not compete.

How to add the cover (and why previewing first matters)

From Facebook’s own steps: open EventsYour EventsHosting, open the event, click Edit, then Add and choose Upload, Gallery, or a GIF. Reposition, then Save. Because size cannot be changed later, a wrong canvas means starting over.

Before you upload, check three views:

  1. The full 1,920 × 1,005 banner (desktop event page).
  2. A center crop at roughly 16:9 or shorter (mobile header).
  3. A small landscape thumbnail (invite, search, and shares).

Social Previewing is built for profile and cover mockups across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and X. Upload the event graphic once, then confirm it still reads next to your Page avatar and other platform covers instead of discovering the crop after guests already received the invite. Checklist before you hit Save

  • Canvas is 1,920 × 1,005 (or another 1.91:1 file at least 1,200 px wide).
  • Headline and date sit in the center 60%, not the top or bottom edge.
  • No critical text in the far corners.
  • JPG under a few MB, or PNG if you need sharp type.
  • You previewed desktop, mobile, and thumbnail crops.
  • You are not recycling a Page 851 × 315 or a Group 1,640 × 856 file.

Get the Facebook event cover photo size right on the first upload and the rest of the event page—title, time, Going button—can do its job. Design 1,920 × 1,005, protect the center, and preview the crop so guests see a sharp banner instead of a stretched leftover from another Facebook surface.
